How I built a Bass-Guitar
there!
Ok today something different.
Some time ago I had the idea… “Hey I want to buit my own Bass!”( I play bass since about 6 months now). At that time I wanted to use aluminum for it.but then I wasnt so sure about the sound…so I thought “Ok then lets use wood! A nice wood!”. Another question was the shape. I wanted something very nice… and I found it : Warwick Thumb! And with that question I also answered the 1st one. I´ll use BUBINGA as tone-wood.
Well it wasnt easy to get the BUBINGA wood since it is a tropical wood and… expensive. But my father knows some guys who knows some guys… anyway I got the wood. A 60×56x4,3cm big pice of wood. Weight = 15kg. Yeah thats like a stone!
The neck isnt self made. I bought a “Fender-style-neck” on ebay. I didnt like the head. I wanted a “Warwick-shape-head”. And so I did.
Here the photos of the “construcion-process”
I cutted out the ground-shape
After some work on the corners..
… I had the final shape I wanted
Outcutted pieces for the neck, bridge and pickup (wich is an EMG-MM TW by the way!)
I wanted a natural-oil finished. So I used some “hard-wood-oil”…
Here´s the final bass. You see… very Warwick like
The back side.
Of course its not perfect. I mean its my 1st self made bass
But I really like it! It also sounds better than my bass I bought!
Lot of substain because of the heavy wood!
I also recorded (in a not-so-nice-but-ok-quality
) a sample so you can hear how it sounds.
I used singlecoil for this recording… with doublecoil it sounds more deep… with more bass
Cya!
